Position summary: The QC Manager supports the Director of Quality in employing a variety of measures to foster a quality culture and place quality at the heart of Cheer Pack. Maintaining top quality demands adapting measures to meet ever-evolving customer expectations. The QC Manager works to ensure that all internal products and external materials comply with Cheer Pack’s quality procedures, work instructions, specifications, and customer requirements. Additionally, this role requires full oversight of our comprehensive laboratory and technicians.  The QC manager achieves this by overseeing and guiding quality control practices and systems. Further, the QC Manager helps the site develop, use, and maintain documentation and records that support the Quality Management System and meet industry and customer requirements. 

 

Qualifications required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years of quality control management experience managing a lab and product testing (raws, WIP, finished goods)
  • Background working with Injection Molding/plastics (minimum of 2 years)
  • Understands how to support and maintain compliance to a GFSI standard (e.g., SQF, BRC, ISO)
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with MRP or ERP systems, data analysis, graphing, and reporting

 

Qualifications desired:

  • Experience in film lamination, flexible packaging, and/or food manufacturing
  • Experience with product and tool testing qualification principles (IQ, OQ, PQ validation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Focused on QC more than QA
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal. Interacts well with all levels of management and personnel

 

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Through the implementation of the Quality System and with the support of Manufacturing/Quality personnel, is responsible for helping to ensure that all products manufactured are in accordance with the company’s quality assurance program and that quality/reliability standards are in place to satisfy the customer.
  • Routinely invests time on the floor, with the goal of observing, supporting, and guiding personnel and activities associated with quality and performance.
  • Oversees and monitors all aspects of product testing (all phases), sample taking, retain sampling, process/line audits, data review/trending, supplier quality requirements/performance, and more. Reviews and maintains COA data and files (all types).
  • Oversees the Quality Lab, Quality Supervisor, and technicians, tracking performance and ensuring lab activities and lab requests from the organization are prioritized and fulfilled. This includes reporting results in full to appropriate parties and saving all information in an organized manner.
  • Assists with management of the nonconforming product system including hold management (MRB) and NCRs, Customer Complaints (CPARs), and Supplier complaints (SCARs), related root cause and corrective action activities, related dispositions, and related IFS data. Travel to customers or suppliers if needed.
  • Prepares routine and ad-hoc reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data. This includes testing data and general quality/KPI performance metrics.
  • Ensures necessary testing devices and gauges are available and that a compliant calibration program is in place to track all devices and gauges.
  • Assists with coordinating and hosting customer audits and supplier audits, delegating as appropriate.
  • Participates in HACCP and risk assessment activities and team meetings with other departments to review product/process trends as they relate to quality.
  • Keeps up-to-date of appropriate regulatory requirements as well as GFSI and industry standards.
  • Report any potential food safety, legality, quality, or food defense concerns to the Director of QA and other staff as applicable.
  • Follow all documented Good Manufacturing Practices and understands and continuously works to identify and address out-of-spec GMP or standard operating procedures (SOP’s) as compared with existing work instructions and policies, performing thorough root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Helps maintain product safety, legality, regulatory compliance, and quality systems
  • Must follow all company policies and procedures

  • Available to all levels of manufacturing personnel including supervisors and managers, and displays an excellent attitude, communication skills, and problem-solving skills while performing all daily duties in a safe manner, and reports to work on scheduled days, on time
  • Ensures all GFSI-certification-related quality functions (e.g., calibration, documents, auditing, testing, HACCP, and more) comply 100% with no major non-conformances.
  • Schedules and oversees all lab personnel and ensures 100% timely, 100% accurate reporting for all testing and support performed including lab requests, film, resin, part, and supply qualification phases.
  • Develops and maintains current and effective inspection and testing methods, instructions, and databases for the floor and testers to use and follow, covering incoming product, work in progress product, finished product, and material/process qualification activities.
  • Provides all required quality metrics and trending data monthly or otherwise as required.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls: reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is/or may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels that may require hearing protection.
