Scope of the Position
The Electrical Reliability Engineer establishes and maintains standards of “Best Practice” for manufacturing site maintenance functions across North American operations. Best Practice standards reflect corporate objectives, Responsible Care principles, and Electrical Integrity requirements. Establishes and leads execution of standard procedures for evaluating operational reliability and identification of root cause failure analysis. Defines and implements corrective actions. Drives short and long range sustenance capital planning processes. Participates in project scope and design efforts to assure optimization of reliability for new processes.
What You Need To Be Successful
- Accredited 4-year degree in Electrical engineering/technical discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with electrical integrity, predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, and project & maintenance management in chemical process manufacturing plants.
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEEE, ISA, NFPA, CSA).
- Experience designing, maintaining, and working with 480VAC electrical systems.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and working with 24VDC electrical systems and instrumentation.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and working with process instrumentation such as flowmeters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, and weighing systems.
- Experience as a successful project manager for electrical, instrumentation, and process control systems for chemical processing facilities.
- Experience as a direct supervisor of contractors, wage, and salaried maintenance personnel in a chemical process environment, both union and non-union (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards as applicable to maintenance activities in a chemical process environment.
- Knowledge of Responsible Care Codes. Demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety.
- Demonstrable material successes in multiple areas of maintenance management and plant reliability.
- Demonstrable success in building and leading teams.
- Must be able to travel within US and Canada up to a max of 75%
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and implements Electrical integrity programs that will become the standard for all production facilities, including but not limited to switchgear, motor control centers, motor starters, motors, PLC’s, and instrumentation associated with pressure vessels, piping, tanks, boilers, heaters, and rotating equipment.
- Reviews and updates maintenance practices and procedures, including predictive and preventive maintenance programs, Total Productive Maintenance Planning and Scheduling and communicates these requirements clearly, to all sites. Supports sites in their efforts to attain “best practice” capability in their maintenance functions.
- Audits maintenance functions at all sites vs. best practice standard. Prepares, distributes, and analyzes audit results. Supports Plant Turn Around/Inspections/Electrical Studies, and Consults/Manages projects individually and/or as part of a project team.. Prioritizes opportunities identified and leads efforts to capitalize on those opportunities. Takes corrective action as necessary to ensure adoption of corporate standard practices.
- Establishes standards for measuring and reporting operational reliability as a reflection of maintenance function effectiveness. Identifies and addresses areas for opportunity.
- Periodically reviews site operations/equipment and produces a reliability risk assessment. Utilizes risk management to produce short and long range capital plans. Acts as primary coordinator for capital planning program(s).
- Participates in capital project design and execution as appropriate to ensure consistency of new installations with Industrial standards (IEEE, ISA, NFPA, CSA) and Chemtrade maintenance standards and practices. Assures respective maintenance departments are ready and capable to maintain new installations.
- Drives short and long range sustenance capital planning processes. Participates in project scope and design efforts to assure optimization of reliability for new processes and adherence to industry standards
- Participates on special project teams. Attends personal development training.
- Coaches managers, supervisors, and employees in maintenance Best Practices. Promotes cross-site cooperation and teamwork. Analyzes technical maintenance capabilities at each site and supports management in efforts to close gaps. Trains electrical personnel to ensure safety standards are maintained, to meet OSHA requirements, and to stay current with code changes.

Location: This position can be located anywhere across the US.
