Job Description The new equipment development engineer will be required to work with an OEM Design and manufacturing supplier from conceptual design through installation. Including incremental design reviews, site and vendor visits, quality inspection of equipment and processes, supervise the Factory acceptance testing, own final equipment approval, and oversee the installation at site, to support regional and global serialization initiatives. 100% responsible for project during POC phase, relinquishing responsibility only after project is ready for scalable deployment and KPIs and other misc. deliverables are met. The new equipment development engineer should have the skill and ability to value engineering cost out of robust proof of concept (POC) designs prior to production roll out. Finding more efficient process or cheaper manufactured goods/manufacturing processes to fulfill the same form, fit and function as the POC. Scope: Manages a CAPEX budget - North America Travel: 50% US Based Location: Field Based USA Major/Key Accountabilities This position requires the candidate to have general design capabilities. Able to design conceptual/detailed components independently and communicate to OEM Supplier. Through sketches, CAD, ect Locate and qualify new equipment and engineering service providers. Collaborate with the CHEP Sourcing team to drive robust supplier qualifications, performance standards and warranty strategies Technical lead [SME] for Serialization equipment within the CHEP Service Center network Responsible for selecting, purchasing, and qualifying new automated equipment to support Pallet Serialization. Identify, develop, and implement automated equipment solutions to be used service center process tied to serialization. Responsible for full lifecycle ownership of mechanical systems, interfaces, and electronics packaging from concept through design, manufacturing, and testing Perform and/or coordinate detailed analyses to identify failure Mechanisms and Modes Design and deliver innovative automated or mechanized solutions, including calculation of operating cost, design of operation flow, selection of technology and equipment, and facility layout design Track all projects and provide communication and guidance to senior leadership team Determine and enlist team resource requirements needed for deployment including but not limited to – engineering, IT, Operations, HR and Quality Continuously improve new technology deployments through robust lessons learned process Analyze existing equipment/processes to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction. Participate in and lead risk analysis and DFMEA activities Develop system specifications, protocols, and reports Conceptualize new product ideas by using CAD software to design prototypes Lead testing of prototypes throughout the design process to troubleshoot any potential problems Lead and mentor engineering team members through the design and development of their projects Measures New Development Equipment Engineer is mutually responsible for supporting the Supply Chain Team in achieving business objectives through Capital Equipment development of new and innovative technologies and processes for serialization. Key metrics: Develop and Design solutions to implement serialization into established facilities. Quality inspections of equipment at Pre-FAT/SAT and commissioning stages Identify opportunities for consistency in delivery of equipment Manage the suppliers to ensure that equipment meets all CHEP Equipment standards Standardization and continuous Improvement of current systems and processes Process Reliability improvements Authority/ Decision Making Leading Expert of Mechanical systems and fabrications of unique devices for CHEP Service Centers that adhere to all US regulatory and CHEP specifications and standards. Reviewing and checking the work of internal and external engineering teams Purchasing Recommendations Working autonomously Provide training and mentoring Key contacts Engineering [Primary], Information Technology, Maintenance Excellence, Health & Safety, Operations, Digital Team Equipment suppliers, Integrators, General Contractors Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related Engineering Superb creativity, vision, and problem-solving skills Ability to make decisions in high-stress situations Meticulous attention to detail in design and documentation Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in completing engineering design software (Ex: SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Autodesk/AutoCAD) Demonstrated proficiency in engineering analysis Experience 8-10 years' experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, with a background in DMAIC and lean process 5 years project engineering and/or related project management experience Strong understanding of fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, and injection molding Understanding of structural and thermal analyses, and failure modes of complex mechanical systems Hands-on experience performing fabrication, assembly, or testing of mechanical hardware Solid understanding and demonstrated application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing Experience with safety machine guarding Experience with conveyor, sortation, scanning/vision, shuttle systems, AMRs and robotics Skills and Knowledge Familiar with basic industrial electrical wiring, process piping, and machine guarding principles Understanding of engineering principles and practices Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams Ability to work in a team environment and interpersonal skills to work with internal/external customers Ability to be able to lead a team of designers or engineers Material Handling stacking and conveyor & robotic systems, specifically Yaskawa, a plus Familiarity with vision systems Familiar with project management methods Working knowledge of the use of AutoDesk, AutoCAD, SolidWorks & Emulate 3D #MON Preferred Education Bachelors Preferred Level of Work Experience 7 - 10 years Remote Type Fully Remote We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we are committed to developing a diverse workforce in which everyone is treated fairly, with respect, and has the opportunity to contribute to business success while realizing his or her potential.
