GIS Specialist II will contribute to spatial analysis, remote sensing, and ecological monitoring projects, providing technical support to federal clients and partners. If you have a passion for geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies, this opportunity is perfect for you.

GIS Specialist II Responsibilities Include: 

  • Develop new spatial data from remotely sensed data (e.g., satellite imagery and aerial photography) using standard operating procedures and under the guidance of the Project Manager. Generate approximately 3–5 classifications per month.
  • Conduct spatial analyses of geospatial datasets to support ecological monitoring and assessments using standard operating procedures and close direction from the Project Manager. Complete about 6–8 spatial analyses per month.
  • Assist with GIS geodatabase design, development, and maintenance for projects as required.
  • Review scientific literature related to remote sensing, GIS analyses, and ecology-specific habitats.
  • Occasionally provide recommendations for work steps and perform analyses based on instructions or established procedures.
  • Document project status and timekeeping in the project tracking database.
  • Document technical and procedural methodologies for dataset creation and analysis.
  • Produce FGDC compliant metadata for all deliverables.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

GIS Specialist II Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science with a focus on geographic information systems or remote sensing.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a research setting.
  • Knowledge of geographic information science and remote sensing concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of remote sensing theory, geospatial analysis techniques, lidar data, datums and coordinate systems, data management, map production, FGDC metadata standards, and figure/table preparation.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English-language communication.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
