What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at Chesterfield County?
High school diploma or GED; Virginia Journeyman Electrician License; two years of experience as a journey electrician; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some generator and Uninterrupted Power Supply training and experience preferred. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of electricity; of electrical systems and circuits; of National Electrical Code. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and wiring diagrams; to communicate effectively orally and in writing, to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, lifting 50 pounds or more, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety. Develop and maintain effective working relationship with internal and external customers. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Under general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical apparatuses. These apparatuses include, but are not limited to, ballast, switches, outlets, motor starters, panel boards, switchgears, transformers, etc. Must be willing to participate on rotating on-call shift after-hours emergencies. Considered essential personnel/designated staff during adverse weather conditions and emergency events. Rotating on-call after hours. Uniforms provided. Perform other work as required.
