Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
The Biller/Coder Specialty is responsible for the appropriate advanced specialty billing/ coding to patient health records for purposes of document retrieval, analysis and claim processing for Radiology. Serves as a resource to other Biller/Coders. Ensures coding is in compliance with guidelines of the organization. If employee is an interventional radiology technician also operates imaging equipment and performs diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a licensed provider. Prepares and maintains records and files as directed.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Accurately abstracts information from the medical records into the appropriate billing/coding systems, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Determine the most appropriate diagnosis after a thorough review of the medical records. Work closely with practice staff with regards to billing/coding and assignment of a Diagnosis Related Group and Ambulatory Payment Classification.
- Bill/Code medical records using current coding rules and guidelines. Ensure thorough and compliant coding to support patient records and submission of billing for payment.
- Accurately sequence diagnostic and procedural codes according to organization specified procedures and assigns coding as appropriate. Provides codes various departments upon request.
- Enter and validate charges using appropriate tools and validates diagnoses with the medical documentation provided.
- Compare charges on accounts with the procedures coded and identifies any discrepancies. Notify appropriate individuals of any discrepancies’ and collaborates as needed to rectify the account.
- Ensure compliance with coding, billing, and data collection guidelines of the organization.
- May assist with the training of individuals.
- Participate in special projects and/or completes other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience | High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. If performing Radiologic exams: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
May Either be a Skilled Biller/Coder or Radiology Technician |
