What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computer Science Curriculum Instruction Manager position at Chicago Public Schools - CPS-1?

The Office of Computer Science (OCS) supports over 400 elementary and high school educators tasked to implement Computer Science (CS) content and meet the ambitious goals set by the department and Chicago Public Schools (CPS). By the year 2024, we are committed to ensuring 75 percent of elementary schools have adopted a computer science (CS) curriculum and that 100 percent of CPS high schools offer an introductory computer science course. Additionally, we are setting the stage to ensure 80 percent of high schools will offer at least one intermediate CS course and 40 percent will offer a course for early college credit.
Under the direction of the Director, the Curriculum and Instruction Manager will be accountable for the acquisition, development and continuous improvement of District and State standards-aligned curriculum while supervising ongoing teacher professional development to ensure effective use of District computer science curriculum. Manage K-12 computer science curriculum instruction, assessment, and assist with staff in-services for the same. Provide leadership and direction to computer science curriculum pathways and courses with coaches and teaching assistants. Work collaboratively with expert teachers, coaches, teaching assistants, and industry partners to develop processes and products that successfully support computer science education programs. Supervise grants and grant development and special projects as needed that support curriculum, instruction and assessment along with the Director, university partners, and researchers.

Residency Requirement:
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.

- Lead, develop and manage the talent on the curriculum team. Including High School Instructional Coaches, High School Curriculum Specialists, Curriculum Developers, and K-8 Curriculum and Integration Specialists
- Manage district-wide PreK-12 computer science curriculum development and professional development to ensure effective, standard-aligned curriculum is implemented.
- Manage the development and evaluation of professional development efforts for district computer science faculty.
- Facilitate the development of computer science content of PreK-12 curricula and multiple assessments to align the District scope and sequence.
- Provide leadership in planning and coordinating district-wide professional development days aligned to district computer science curriculum and site instructional needs.
- Manage outreach with school principals, administrative designees, counselors, schedulers, and technology coordinators regarding District computer science curriculum and professional development.
- Remain up to date on current research and legislation in the area of computer science curriculum
- Coordinate efforts with Computer Science Implementation Management of K-12 school sites to ensure effective support and efficient implementation of initiatives.
- Communicate PreK-12 curriculum, its philosophy, goals, and objectives to district stakeholders
- Regularly attend Leadership Team meetings to discuss important issues impacting the Computer Science for All District Program.
- Represent the District at national computer science curriculum instruction, assessment, professional development, university, industry, and related meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Type of Education Required
- Master's degree or higher, preferably, in an educational discipline

- Three or more years of experience working with adult learners, including coaching and/or designing professional development for teachers and administrators
- Working knowledge of state and national standards and assessments
- 3-5 years managing in an educational institution

- Aptitude to be able to use database and dashboards to maintain records, prepare and present reports
