Job Overview
The Lead Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician is crucial for patient safety and infection control, as they ensure the decontamination, reprocessing, and maintenance of surgical instruments, endoscopes, and patient care equipment. They proficiently operate various surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment. Qualifications
Education: High School or GED
Experience: 3 years of surgical instrumentation in a hospital sterile processing environment
Certification(s): Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)
Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
Anticipates OR needs and leads the workroom to minimize delays in OR schedule.
Acts as surgical specialty liaison to the Operating Room and Procedure Center.
Assists with training on cleaning and sterilization, using instrument manufacturer’s guidelines for new instruments and sets.
Creates and updates instrument set lists and enters them into SPM system.
Performs all decontamination functions for durable medical equipment and OR surgical instruments.
Performs all surgical instrument functions with proper care and handling. Ensures all instruments are in proper working condition before reassembling the sets.
Participates in professional education and growth opportunities within Sterile Processing and instrument technology. Maintains certifications and stays up to date with current trends in field.
Precepts new employees aiding in their development.
Assists with staffing, operational planning, and control functions, including specialized technical skill requirements.
Oversees departmental operations in the absence of management, applying knowledge of policies and procedures.
Provides leadership and supervisory guidance in quality improvement efforts. May be asked to lead quality initiatives.
Develops and maintains expert knowledge of surgical service, sterile process, or instrument classification.
Communicates with medical and nursing personnel regarding changes in service and/or special needs. Recommend ordering of new equipment/instruments and replacing of lost or damaged items.
Assists with the orientation, training and ongoing in-service education programs for technicians.
Participates with other Sterile Processing Departments within the organization to assist with staffing challenges.
Collaborate with vendors and other facilities for loaner trays.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $48,962.61 to $73,443.91
Hourly Salary Range: $23.54 to $35.31
