About the Position
Cleaning Associates play a key role in ensuring high standards of cleanliness and appearance of the museum, which contributes to visitor experience and is critical to the success of the museum. Cleaning Associates perform porter, cleaning and janitorial duties throughout the facility. This role is primarily responsible for cleaning museum buildings, including but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms.
Essential Job Functions:
- Clean, sanitize and restock restrooms throughout the day
- Respond to spills, accidents and other immediate cleaning needs
- Empty trash and recycling throughout the day
- Sweep and pick up debris interior and exterior of museum buildings
- Responsible for cleaning restrooms as per work scope outlined by Facility manager.
- Sweeping and mopping as directed.
- Vacuum, dust, spot carpet clean as directed
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures.
- May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
- Empty trash and recycling as directed.
- Clean windows as directed.
- Understand and be able to perform emergency procedures (i.e. fire evacuation, accident reporting).
- Assist in receiving of supplies and other minor tasks to assist facilities department.
- Responsible for clean-up, decontamination, and disposal of bodily fluids on an as needed basis. Follows all safety procedures related to this task.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of high school diploma.
Experience & Skills:
- Previous commercial cleaning experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements, and Equipment Usage:
- Employee can expect to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Moves throughout the museum, on a regular basis to clean.
- Lifting of heavier objects (such as furniture) may be done occasionally and may be performed with assistance.
- Position includes climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Use of walkie-talkie for communication
Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements:
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Some flexibility required.
- Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
Clearances: FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse (Act 33) and PA Criminal (Act 34) Clearances are required.
