Start Date: July 1, 2024

Wage Range: $131,460 - $146,611 /DOE (Salaries are stated as an estimate only. Actual salary is confirmed only upon hire/job offer.)

POSITION DESCRIPTION
As a collaborative and relational instructional leader, the principal is a key member of the District Leadership Team and Superintendent’s Cabinet and is responsible for the overall success of the elementary school. The principal plays a crucial role for developing an effective and equitable learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds in a Title I school district. In collaboration with district and building staff, the principal will oversee Chimacum Elementary School (approximately 200 2-6 grade students) and Special Programs (LAP/Title, Highly Capable Learners, and Transitional Bilingual).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Duties

  • Create a sense of community by collaborating with administrators, staff, students, families, and the community to ensure that the school climate effectively promotes student engagement and belonging for all students.
  • Supervise and evaluate ESA staff.
  • Provide leadership, vision, trust, and inspiration to staff and students; promote a belief system and values-driven culture of equity and excellence, set high expectations for all students.
  • Develop and promote teacher and staff leadership for student success; lead staff in the analysis of data, development of school improvement plans specific to the needs of students, and implementation and evaluation of the plan throughout the school year; use data to guide instruction and programs.
  • Work with district and building leaders to nurture a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for emotional, behavioral, and academic success for all students.
  • Communicate with staff, colleagues, and families for clarity, purpose, and setting a vision for our students with an emphasis on inclusionary practices.
  • • Select, hire, support, supervise, and provide professional development of staff based on engagement for all students.
  • Promote engaging, place-based practices for student learning and accelerating student achievement for diverse student populations.
  • Provide and facilitate professional development for staff.
  • Maintain compliance of state and federal performance indicators.
  • Establish and maintain a system for monitoring the effectiveness of program implementation to allow for continuous improvement and development.
  • Direct the development and revision of programs, policies, and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local legislation and district policy.
  • Coordinate curriculum and instruction collaboratively, providing for a smooth transition between elementary, middle, and high school.
  • Communicate and work with principals and directors to establish consistency in program goals.
  • Advise on information and public relations needs for the special programs.
  • Additional district duties may be assigned to this position.

  • Effectively plan, schedule, and use resources; spend time and the time of others on what is important; accurately determine the length and difficulty of tasks and projects; set clear, realistic, and measurable goals; anticipate roadblocks and develop contingencies.
  • Support equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all; foster a climate of inclusion; promote culturally responsive instruction and leadership where diverse thoughts are freely shared and integrated.
  • Manage budgets, master scheduling, and integrate technology to enhance classroom instruction and school management; possess required functional and technical knowledge and skills to complete the essential job duties at a high level of accomplishment; demonstrate active interest and ability to enhance and apply new functional skills.
  • Use analysis, wisdom, experience, and logical methods to make quality decisions and to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; incorporate stakeholder input to establish shared ownership and effective action.
  • Persist in the face of setbacks and promote work/life balance and personal wellness.
  • Cultivate the school community at large; keep confidences; be warm and easy to approach; build constructive and effective relationships; use diplomacy and tact to diffuse tense situations.
  • Represent the school and district in the community at large through business partnerships and other public service activities; be effective in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings; promote Transitional Kindergarten and other Early Childhood programs.

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually using AWSP framework in accordance with the provisions of Washington State Law and the bargained agreement.
  • UW CEL evaluation and instructional framework knowledge and experience preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in educational administration or related field.
  • Washington State principal certification.
  • Three years of teaching experience required; five years preferred; elementary school level preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful school-based leadership experience, preferably at the elementary school level.
  • Elementary Education Endorsement or background preferred.

Allowable substitutions: any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work and to meet certification requirements may be allowed at the Superintendent’s discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an elementary school. During a normal work day employee may have to go outside and maneuver steps, ramps, and uneven ground in all types of weather. The ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Tolerance for occasional loud noises. Some evening work is required for attendance at meetings, sports and other school events. Experiences frequent interruptions; may be exposed to distraught and angry people.
