POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Sr. Port Operations Manager, this role is responsible for port and yard operations supervision which includes, but is not limited to, processes planning and supervision to ensure operational standards and cost effectiveness, data integrity and on time reporting. The incumbent must be adaptable to changes in the business environment, flexible to working schedules and eager to take accountability for different processes at our facility.
This is a supervisory, exempt position. The primary duty of this role is management of the organization or of a recognized unit or subdivision thereof. This role includes supervision of at least two other full-time employees or the equivalent thereof. In addition to having the authority to hire or fire other employees and/or to make suggestions and recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, etc. of other employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct supervision of gate and yard personnel to ensure processes and systems integrity, being the most relevant ones (but not excluding other business needs): intermodal equipment inspection and damage reporting, real time and accurate equipment inventory in the system, real time visibility in the system of equipment spot in Wilmington yard, check in and out of drivers picking fruit or liner northbound orders, ensure chassis leaving Wilmington yard are road worthy, ensure refrigerated containers are plugged in at all times and temperature is monitored.
- Planning, supervision and reporting of gate, yard, and ship operations during weekly vessel port call and upon vessel departure.
- Provide the necessary reports to validate stevedore’s and port’s invoices as the reports to bill liner customers on transload and storage services at Wilmington yard.
- Coordinate yard personnel to execute pre-trip of containers required for southbound cargo.
- Coordinate with GWF and Transportation teams on liner Southbound cargo delivery to the yard in compliance with cut off for vessel operation.
- Coordinate with yard personnel to have liner Northbound equipment and documentation ready to dispatch to customers.
- Responsible for warehouse transfers and inspections supervision.
- Liaise with Management and HR on all necessary training for the personnel – process and safety.
- Liaise Management and HR on documented disciplinary warnings, when necessary, to direct reports.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Associates degree required.
- 3 years of port and/or yard operations.
- 2 years in a supervisory position.
- Experience in intermodal environment preferred.
- Strong work ethics, goal driven, self-motivated and teamwork player.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to quickly learn computer information system applications.
- Availability to extended working schedules, as well as weekend and holiday work. Schedule can be subject to changes based on business need.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Most work is performed in a temperature controlled office environment.
- The incumbent will be exposed to an environment with heavy equipment traffic for the planning and supervision of the processes.
- The incumbent will need to learn and then teach his/her direct reports to plug and unplug reefer containers to 480V plugs and
- occasionally will require to execute the labor him/herself.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment during normal workday.
- Walking, stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, pulling, pushing, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
