What are the responsibilities and job description for the Travel EMT position at Chloeta?
Job Summary: This position serves as an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Paramedics and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedics in a federal facility in a Native American/American Indian community in Pine Ridge, SD. A minimum one (1) year commitment is preferred. Options for additional consecutive one (1) year commitments do typically exist, but are based on client needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Skill and knowledge of established concepts, principles and practices related to health care assignments and additional training or experience in assessing the conditions of patients, in providing medical care and in advising on health care needs, all with full consideration of mental, emotional and physical factors.
- Contract Providers will meet and maintain a high level of patient and customer satisfaction at all times.
- Contractor shall adhere to all operational rules, standards, clinical standards and directives of the PRIHS EMS Director or designee
- Skill in making diagnosis and in choosing, initiating and modifying selected therapies; and ability to provide emergency treatment.
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals in order to recognize their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
- Knowledge of human behavior during stressful situations in order to exercise emotional control, tact, patience and reliability in carrying out patient care.
- Contract Providers shall use PRIHS Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, Imagetrend, to maintain accurate and up-to-date information on clinical care provided to patients.
- Medical documentation shall be completed within 12 hours after the assigned shift.
- Knowledge of health record aspects of patient care and ability to accurately and completely document related clinical data.
- Exposure to contagious diseases is possible while working. Potential exposure to bodily fluids may occur in the course of caring for trauma patients
- A license to practice in the United States is required. Compliance with Indian Health Service – Service Unit Medical Staff/Governing Body By-laws, Rules and Regulations and compliance with requirements for credentialing/privileging as an active member of the medical staff.
- Skill in diplomacy and tact while working in stressful situations.
Duty Schedule:
- At a minimum, the Contractor shall maintain a staff of four (4) Paramedics and five (5) EMTs throughout the duration of this contract.
- 0600 hours to 1830 hours for day shift (two Paramedics for day shift)
- 1800 hours to 0630 hours for night shift(two Paramedics for night shift)
- 0600 hours to 1830 hours for day shift (two or three EMTs for day shift)
- 1800 hours to 0630 hours for night shift(two or three EMTs for night shift)
- Any absence from scheduled work shifts requires prior approval by the Government representative or designee. Approval of leave is contingent upon availability of a qualified replacement.
- Absences of three (3) or more consecutive days due to illness require documentation from a qualified healthcare provider stating: (1) the cause of the current illness or incapacitation; AND (2) indicating the staff member as contagious or non-contagious to the Government. The Government reserves the right to examine and/or re-examine any individual who meets the criteria.
Required Education and Experience:
- Contract Providers shall be certified and/or licensed through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or recognized state licensing agency.
- All contract Providers shall possess cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Paramedics are required to have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- Certifications and licensure shall be kept current throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Contract Providers shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill PRIHS requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Excel, etc. Contract Providers shall meet Continuing Education (CE) requirements as determined by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) State of Licensure.
- Able to operate a computer utilizing Microsoft applications such as, Word, Excel, etc.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
- This position may require extended periods of being on your feet.

Pre-employment Requirements:
- This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, fingerprinting, background check, drug screen or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.
- Documentation from the provider’s physician or chief of staff that confirms they do not have any health problems (including disability, emotional stability, drug, or alcohol dependency) that might impair his/her ability to care for patients at time of application.
- Ability to meet client facility requirements with regard to immunity for vaccine preventable diseases through documented disease, vaccination history, serology results, and/or any documented episodes of adverse events after vaccination.
Housing
Some locations for travel nurses and travel allied health positions provide Government housing on site for a nominal monthly fee, but is subject to availability. Chloeta support staff will make every effort possible to assist travelers in locating and securing housing prior to start dates.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing during or at the beginning of employment.
Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.
Emergency Response
Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
