Job Description for Emergency Medical Technician

Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. Requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires completion of state approved EMT course, registration with the EMT National Registry, and an active license from the applicable state EMS Authority. Requires CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an Emergency Medical Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience, or may need 0 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
