Job Summary: This position serves a traveling Medical Laboratory Technician in a federal facility in a Native American/American Indian community. A minimum thirteen (13) week commitment is preferred. Options for additional consecutive thirteen (13) week commitments do typically exist, but are based on client needs. The purpose of this position is to provide support in a clinical laboratory setting and play an integral role in the diagnosis process. The Travel Medical Laboratory Technician works in support of Medical Laboratory Technologists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, and physicians to perform a variety of tests.
Required Education and Experience:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate’s Degree or Diploma required in a relevant field of study.
Must possess a current certification through the ASCP or an equivalent, nationally recognized license
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
Comply with all IHS Privacy Act, HIPAA, and Ethical regulations.
Adhere to all IHS Standards of Conduct and be courteous and respectful to all internal and external customers.
Compliance with IHS Service Units and/or Health Centers published Policies; Procedures; Standards of Care; and hospital and Laboratory Protocols.
Ensures that policies and procedures as well as safety practices are effectively followed and shares responsibility for ensuring compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards.
Ensure all required documentation meets established IHS Medical Facility, Joint Commission, and CMS standards to include, but are not limited to, timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, date, time, and signature.
No reports of breached patient safety, infection control, and other procedures that might adversely affect patient outcome.
Demonstration of continual cultural awareness and focus on customer service while adhering to the Code of Ethics and Federal Code of Conduct.
Maintaining credentialing uninterrupted as required by each facility.
Demonstrated ability in effective oral and written communication.
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
Ability to listen and accept constructive criticism.
Ability to prioritize tasks.
Experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position in a clinical laboratory.
