What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employee Health Nurse/ Per Diem position at CHRISTUS Health?
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for all pre-employment testing including required assessments and implementation and documentation of PPD testing and follow-up. Administers Worker's Compensation cases in conjunction with the third-party administrator, and is fully versed in OSHA and New Mexico Workers' Compensation Law. Conducts basic ergonomics assessments.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Graduation of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program OR graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse program.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current LPN OR RN licensure in the State of New Mexico or compact state. C.O.H.N. certification preferred. BLS issued through the American Heart Association required.
SKILLS:
- Effective interpersonal, customer-service, critical thinking, nursing and problem-solving skills to provide employee assessment
- Demonstrates ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to act in a manner that supports the mission of the hospital
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Working knowledge of OSHA and Worker's Compensation
EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in occupational health, infection control or employee wellness preferred.

Requires knowledge and practice of safety standards including Bloodborne Pathogen policy and practice. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease and x-ray in course of normal duties. Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated smoke-free environment. Subject to stressful professional relationships. Working hours are varied with flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moves or assists in moving; (including but not limited to lifting or pushing equipment and/or supplies up to 25 pounds; frequent and prolonged standing. Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing and walking. Requires heavy physical effort; push and/or transfer patients or equipment and supplies. Requires considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching. Ability to judge distance and space relationships, see peripherally, distinguish and identify different colors. Hearing and visual acuity that falls within normal or correctable limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
