Responsibilities:
1. Culinary Leadership:
- Lead and supervise the kitchen staff to ensure a high standard of culinary excellence.
- Develop and implement creative and well-balanced menus that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of Christwood's residents.
2. Meal Preparation and Presentation:
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of meals, ensuring they meet quality and nutritional standards.
- Monitor portion control and maintain consistency in taste, texture, and appearance.
3. Quality Control:
- Implement and enforce health and safety standards in the kitchen.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations and guidelines.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with procurement to maintain a well-stocked kitchen.
4. Staff Training and Development:
- Train, mentor, and motivate kitchen staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication.
5. Resident Interaction:
- Collaborate with the dining services team to gather resident feedback and incorporate preferences into menu planning.
- Address resident concerns or special dietary requirements with professionalism and sensitivity.
6. Administrative Duties:
- Assist in budget management, cost control, and financial reporting related to the kitchen operations.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, orders, and kitchen expenses.
Requirements:
1. Culinary Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Chef or Sous Chef in a senior living community or similar environment.
- Culinary degree or equivalent certification preferred.
- Current SERV Safe Food Manager Certification.
2. Leadership Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse kitchen team.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in the administration of food services systems.
3. Creativity and Adaptability:
- Ability to create diverse and appealing menus while accommodating dietary restrictions.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing resident preferences and seasonal ingredients.
4. Health and Safety:
- Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards in the kitchen.
- Familiarity with regulations related to food handling and sanitation.
5. Communication:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to interact with residents, staff, and families with empathy and professionalism.
