Position: Chief Finance Leader

Job Status: Full-Time/Exempt

Position Summary:
The Chief Finance Leader directs the agency's financial and accounting functions and holds primary responsibility for enacting practices that ensure financial transparency and good stewardship of agency resources. This position is responsible for the management of grant invoicing, financial reporting, and prepares internal reports and tools to ensure maximum understanding, analysis, and oversight of the financial status of the agency. This position will have exposure to information which is highly confidential in nature. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Finance Leader partners to design systems built to uphold our accountability to the Board of Directors, our stakeholders, our community and our clients. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and provides guidance for all accounting functions to include, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and payroll
  • Directly supervises the accounting team
  • Manages annual budget process and recommends appropriate cost controls
  • Oversees the processing and accounting for revenue and expenditures by program; ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency, local, state and federal requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures
  • Drives the preparation of all information for the annual independent audit and all required tax filings; interface with external auditors/ CPAs
  • Oversee financial components of all grants including budgets, audits, preparation and interpretation of funding agency regulations and requirements
  • Understand and execute Chrysalis’ policies as it relates to grant funding, contracts, and cash management
  • Maintain and enhance the automated financial management systems and databases
  • Provide training to financial staff on the utilization of financial management systems and databases
  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the agency
  • Member of the Financial Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Perform financial reporting and general accounting, internal accounting and controls, cash flow management, accounting systems, projections, and budgeting
  • Provide supervision, leadership, support, training, and performance feedback (as needed) to direct reports to foster a positive team environment and ensure a high level of performance and accuracy in all tasks
  • Train and support staff and volunteers on internal controls
  • Conduct internal reviews to ensure compliance
  • Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis
  • Ensure payroll allocation and other grant-funded expenditures are recorded in a timely manner for monthly grant billings
  • Assist in the solicitation and application of grant funding, and provides consultation on contracts, as it relates to financial and budgetary data
  • Develop financial recommendations, strategic planning, budgets, and cost allocation plans
  • Collect, interpret, and present key financial data in an accurate and timely manner clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments
  • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the President/CEO and if necessary, to the Board of Directors
  • Report to Board of Directors and Finance Committee as requested by the Board of Directors, Finance Committee or CEO
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Ability, Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in a non-profit environment; Masters in Finance or Accounting preferred
  • Financial management experience in the nonprofit sector preferred
  • Supervisory or management experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of non-profit financial/budgetary management, accounting principles, forecasting, and monthly close processes
  • Knowledge of non-profit auditing standards including how to prepare a Schedule of Federal Awards (SEFA) and Statement of Functional Expenses
  • Familiarity with Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200 and government requirements for receiving and using federal awards
  • Proficiency in MS Office, and accounting software, preferably Blackbaud.
  • Strong working computer skills including e-mail, calendars, document processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Understanding of the grant funding process, especially the associated local, state, and federal grant regulations
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with direct reports, colleagues, community members, and stakeholders
  • Ability to anticipate impacts of workload/issues to team deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills to coach, motivate, and train from a developmental approach
  • Knowledge of Domestic Abuse issues preferred

Other Requirements:

She/he/they must provide own transportation and automobile insurance and have the ability to travel throughout the community; all candidates for this position will be subject to a background check, credit check and required to pass a fingerprint clearance as required by Chrysalis and ADHS licensure requirements, pending hire; must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as required by Chrysalis policies; must maintain current TB Testing, CPR and first aid training as required by Chrysalis policies; may be required to move equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. and to ascend/descend stairs.
