Overview
At the direction of the Behavioral Health Director, the Alcohol and Drug Counselor performs work within the requirements of the Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic to fulfill community health objectives for our patients and the community we serve.
Responsibilities
Conducts one-on-one sessions with assigned clients, including family members when necessary.
Refers patients for specialty services as needed and provide culturally sensitive after care treatment options.
Maintains and coordinates counseling data records, providing progress and discharge summaries for outside providers and/or resources.
Ensures all sessions are documented in the electronic health record system.
Keeps supervisor apprised of any issues that may arise.
Establishes tribal and community outreach and networking efforts to identify adult patient risks.
Create and implement prevention treatment and after care programs for adults, including traditional sweat lodge and talking circle.
Collaborates with the Tribal Education and Culture Departments for educational, cultural, and preventative activities.
Collaborates with the local community, including schools, law enforcement and other social service programs.
Transports patient to substance abuse treatment facility if needed or as appropriate.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
State Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
Two years of experience in healthcare related field.
Must poses or obtain a current CPR and First Aid certification within six months of hire date.
Must poses a valid CA Driver’s License.
Knowledge in alcohol and other drug addiction, drug abuse patterns, methodologies and the criminal justice system.
Basic computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail and Internet.
Native American hiring preference applies.
