Position Summary
Cianbro is seeking a tax analyst with the experience and knowledge to become an immediate contributor to a large construction company operating in various markets. This position includes multistate tax responsibilities for all Cianbro entities with operations that include construction and specialty contracting, leasing, and fabrication.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the knowledge and reporting abilities in order to quickly integrate into our team. Candidates must have the ability to work individually and the willingness to expand and learn.
Job Responsibilities
- Timely and accurate preparation, filing and payment of state and local tax returns and related reports: sales and use tax, personal property tax, gross receipts, business licenses/registrations, and other tax and miscellaneous filings.
- Examine accounts and records to compute taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations.
- Register companies in new state and local tax jurisdictions for sales/use tax and business licenses as needed.
- Maintain/update tax calendar.
- Provide support for external tax audits.
- Respond to tax notices.
- Gather documentation and perform analysis for the year-end preparation of the U.S. consolidated and state income/franchise tax returns.
- Keep abreast of tax updates; monitor and identify state and local tax opportunities.
- Support the sales and purchases tax exemption certificate process.
- Identify and drive continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform internal sales and use tax audits, under the direction of the Tax Director, to determine if there are any significant exposure issues and/or recovery opportunities.
- Support the Tax Director with special projects, including tax research and ad-hoc analysis.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited four-year university (focus in taxation preferred).
- CPA and/or Master’s Degree in Taxation a plus.
- Five years relevant experience in tax, finance, or general accounting.
- Multistate tax experience required: state and local taxes, including indirect taxes and property taxes.
- Construction industry experience a plus.
- Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality.
- Excellent analytical and strong problem-solving skills.
- Detail and deadline oriented; highly motivated and organized to manage competing deadlines.
- Flexible to adapt to changing priorities and ability to perform in interruptive conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels within the organization.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment to accomplish established department, office, and/or Company-wide goals.
- Advanced in Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint; CMiC software knowledge a plus.
