Position Purpose
Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Consumer Lending Department, including loan promotions and extensions of installment credit to Credit Union members. Ensures that such credit operations are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal requirements, and result in maximum volume, appropriate profit, and minimum delinquency ratios. Coordinates and oversees auto loans, secured/unsecured loans, credit cards and promotion activities, ensures that all areas of responsibility support Credit Union objectives and goals. Trains, directs, and appraises all direct reports. Ensures that services are delivered professionally and efficiently, and that members’ problems are resolved promptly.
Essential Job Functions
1. Responsible for the development and implementation of effective Consumer Loan Department policies, procedures, and planning.
a. Assists the Vice President in developing short and long-term goals and plans for the Consumer Lending Department. Assists with budgeting. Provides suggestions and recommendations.
b. Develops policies and procedures for loan activities. Implements new loan products and services in accordance with senior management direction. Conducts periodic reviews of existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and legal compliance. Implements improvements in lending and promotion practices that will further the objectives of the Credit Union.
2. Responsible for the effective and efficient completion of Consumer Loan functions.
a. Responsible for the developmental loan training of back office and branch consumer lending staff.
b. Monitors and evaluates work quality, efficiency, and productivity. Ensures that optimal efficiency is maintained in lending activities. Assists in defining appropriate limits of authority for loan employees and ensures adequate understanding of the credit union’s loan procedures and policies.
c. Tracks workflow and ensures that deadlines are met.
d. Maintains loan accounts including compliance and reporting to regulatory agencies as required.
3. Supervises Department staff, ensuring optimal performance.
4. Responsible for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members, vendors, and trade professionals.
a. Ensures that members’ requests and questions are promptly and courteously resolved. Explains loan programs to members, evaluating their needs and recommending loan options. Actively promotes the credit union’s full line of products.
b. Manages loan-related Third Party Vendor relationships; including but not limited to: LoansPQ, PSCU, and CU Insurance Center.
5. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
Job Qualifications
Required Education:
- A two‑year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
Required Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of Credit Union loan products and applicable policies and standards.
- Understanding of government regulations and legal requirements involving lending and related functions.
- Familiarity with the underwriting process, loan promotions, and marketing practices.
Required Experience:
- 5-8 years of similar or related experience
- 2-5 years of management experience
- 5 years of consumer lending experience
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills including problem solving skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
- Ability to analyze and resolve employee relation conflicts.
- Strong project management abilities.
- Well organized, and able to meet deadlines.
- Excellent public relations skills and excellent oral and written communication.
