The Opportunity
CJAM is seeking our next full-time Executive Director to join our team in Bloomington, IN, and provide imaginative and skilled leadership alongside the Board of Directors to expand CJAM’s work which includes Community Mediation, Training & Education, Restorative Justice, Eviction Court Mediation, and more. The Executive Director will collaboratively lead our team of part-time staff and 40 volunteer mediators and work closely with an active and dedicated board. The new Executive Director will join CJAM as the organization is poised for transformative growth, having emerged from the pandemic with a capacity-building grant, a track record of expanding services through new community partnerships (including the Eviction Prevention Project and Community Voices for Health) and a virtual infrastructure for delivering trainings and mediation services online, all during the tenure of the outgoing Executive Director who is retiring at the end of 2024.
Desired Qualifications
Strong candidates will demonstrate the skills, experience, and inclination to manage and carry out the following responsibilities:
● Oversee daily operations and ensure adequate staffing for case management and program delivery, with judicious use of delegation and priority-setting currently as the only full-time staff person.
● Grow fundraising with focus on developing a major donor program, cultivating new grant funding, and managing events and appeals to boost revenue; and, oversee all aspects of grant reporting and donor stewardship.
● Serve as CJAM ambassador in and beyond the local community to nurture partnerships with community organizations, courts, governmental agencies, and state and national networks.
● Champion and model diversity, equity, and inclusion among the board, staff, and volunteers, and integrate practices aimed at improving DEI into every facet of organizational life.
● Provide financial leadership that builds organizational capacity through sound and strategic budgeting, reporting, accounting systems, and payroll procedures, in collaboration with Treasurer and bookkeeper.
● Foster cohesion and collaboration among staff and key volunteers through supervisory and team-building practices, role clarification, and developing personnel policies that advance equity and inclusion.
● Build and sustain a robust volunteer training and development program that provides for mentoring, innovations in the 40-hour mediation training, ongoing skills development, and effective volunteer integration into case management and service delivery – in collaboration with the board Programs Committee and staff.
● Attend to the public reputation of CJAM and increase awareness of the organization’s mission and programs through marketing initiatives, earned media, and social media.
● Ensure organizational compliance with legal and grant expectations and oversee all contractors, vendors, and purchases.
● Provide leadership and reporting with and to the Board in all phases of its work, and proactively engage the board in setting strategic vision and policies.
Additional Desired Qualifications
● Experience in an organization providing services to clients in conflict situations
● Trained in the practice of mediation and restorative justice and familiar with current trends in each field
● 5 years’ experience in non-profit administration and fundraising
● Proficient with computers and skilled at adopting and troubleshooting IT platforms
● Demonstrated ability to ask the right questions and seek clarification and understanding

Start date before January 1, 2025. Hybrid work arrangement (remote and in-office) within Bloomington, IN. Salary in the range of $50,000 to $60,000 with additional health benefits, generous paid time off, and flexible schedule. Potential for onboarding alongside outgoing Executive Director
