We are looking for a Data Protection and Privacy Officer to join our Administration Department in our NYC office. As a Data Protection and Privacy Officer, you will be responsible for providing excellent client service. We are recruiting a Data Protection and Privacy Officer to assist us in standing up our data protection program to improve our management of potentially sensitive information and serve as the main point of contact between Citrin Cooperman and data protection authorities. The Data Protection Officer will work closely with our Chief Risk Officer, General Counsel and Chief Information Officer in these efforts. The ideal candidate will have excellent organization, communication, and management skills, along with an ability to lead and grow a team. The Data Protection and Privacy Officer will also train our staff on this topic and continue to promote data protection compliance within the firm.
Our Data Protection and Privacy Officer will be Citrin Cooperman’s main point of contacts for issues related to data protection and privacy. They will be well versed on all privacy laws that could impact our firm including, but not limited to, GDPR, CCPA, HIPPA, etc. The Data Protection and Privacy Officer must be passionate on this topic, focused on promoting a culture of data protection and compliance across the firm and work with our Learning and Development Team in developing and conducting data protection and privacy training courses.
Responsibilities:
- Leads and oversees the Office of Data Protection and Privacy staff in their core functions.
- Leads the development and implementation of privacy policies, procedures, practices, and guidance for Citrin Cooperman, including administering a robust privacy and data governance program.
- Advises Citrin Cooperman partners and staff on privacy, record retention, data security, management, and governance issues, including risk mitigation initiatives and decisions concerning the disclosure of personally identifiable records and data.
- Participates in the review of agreements concerning the sharing of personally identifiable records and data; reviews and drafts privacy and data security provisions in vendor contracts in consultation with the Office of the General Counsel; advises on processes and procedures for ensuring third party data privacy and security compliance.
- Collaborates with Citrin Cooperman leadership and other Firm stakeholders to support compliance with applicable local, state, federal and international laws and regulations concerning privacy and data security.
- Monitors and reviews developments with respect to privacy and data security, and when appropriate, advises on changes to new or current legislation. Incorporates regulatory and legal requirements into Citrin Cooperman’s privacy practices.
- Establishes and administers a training program on privacy- and data-security-related issues. Manages formal staff development on matters related to privacy and data security. Drafts privacy and data security-related communications in collaboration with senior leadership and other internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a pertinent field; industry-recognized privacy certification (e.g., CIPP-US)
- Five or more years of experience and increasing responsibility, including supervisory experience, in privacy-related issues
- Experience and expertise in data protection laws and practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present to business, legal, and technology stakeholders
- Strong project management skills – track record in building and upskilling a team
- Ability to work with various stakeholders across the organization including our leadership team, service line leaders, IT professionals, marketing and sales staff, etc.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage sensitive and confidential information
- Prior experience working with TrustArc is a plus

For positions in New York City, the salary range is $150,000 - $260,000. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws.
