Overview
The Small Business Administration (SBA) Credit Analyst is primarily responsible for the underwriting, processing, closing, and servicing of all SBA loan products currently offered by the Bank. As needed, will be responsible for the ongoing administration of a loan portfolio, including but not limited to, underwriting and processing of new credit requests, renewals/modifications, performing or overseeing timely completion of annual loan reviews, monitoring loan covenants and assessing changes in risk based upon prevailing market and industry conditions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The SBA Credit Analyst will analyze credit data and financial statements of companies and individuals to determine the creditworthiness of borrowers and their ability to repay. Responsibilities include:
Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit through the SBA 504 and 7a loan programs.
Interpretation and application of SBA Standard Operating Procedures.
Order reports such as credit bureau reports, appraisals, environmental assessments, and other due diligence background including background verifications.
Assemble and organize loan packages from the time a loan enters underwriting until the loan file is complete and sent to the closing department.
Provides assistance to all lenders and bank personnel when they have questions about SBA programs.
Consult with loan officers, customers, and other credit administration staff to verify and/or obtain financial information to process the loan request.
Completes special projects at the direction of Wholesale Risk Directors and SBA Product Manager.
Interacts with all other departments to ensure proper SBA implementation.
Prepares SBA authorizations as needed.
Audits loan files making sure that all SBA documents are provided and within SBA guidelines and regulations.
Interactions with the Bank's Closing Department and outside attorneys by addressing and providing support to the lender (s).
Ensures lending conformance with Bank policies and regulatory compliance.
Ensures compliance with underwriting and credit policy procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
May be called on to work with the management of a small loan portfolio that consists of monitoring, maintaining and potentially growing the loan portfolio. Helps to identify any changes in risk associated with existing loans and takes necessary course of action.
Supports Relationship Managers in the maintenance of existing loan client relationships by processing renewal/modification transactions.
Initiates the necessary documentation to change risk ratings and transfer assets to Special Assets Department when necessary.
Responsible for knowing and understanding all changes to the Bank's Credit Policies and procedures and their potential impact on the loan portfolio.
Participates with the bank examiners, bank auditors and loan review staff in their review of the SBA loan portfolio, including coordination of any loan related requested materials and completion of responses as required.
Participates in industry-sponsored associations, seminars and activities to further the Bank's understanding and presence in the market.
Conducts ad hoc projects and assignments as directed by the Business and Personal Banking Wholesale Risk Director, Executive Risk Director or Chief Credit Officer.
Monitors economic, demographic, and other risk conditions within Bank's market area.
Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in the completion of job duties.
Thorough analysis of information and use of logic to address complexity of data and information.
May perform other duties and responsibilities as needed and requested by Bank management.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in credit risk capacities with a financial institution.
Must have excellent oral and written skills to communicate policies, procedures and objectives effectively throughout the Bank and to represent the Bank positively to the public and to cultivate strong working relationships with current and potential loan clients.
Must have good team building and interpersonal skills and be a strong, independent thinker with a high level of analytical skills to assess and manage areas of responsibility including determination of loan risk involved and recommendation of credit approvals.
Excel and Microsoft Word proficiency.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, accounting or other related field.
