Officers have the ability to focus on community-based policing where they can develop and maintain good relationships with Albany residents and business owners.The PositionThe Police Officer Recruit position is for individuals interested in a career as a Police Officer but have not yet completed Basic Academy training. Once hired, Recruits will be enrolled in a Police Academy, where they will learn the skills and duties of performing law enforcement functions. While in the Academy, Recruits are paid an hourly wage with limited benefits. Upon successful graduation from the Academy, Recruits are appointed to the rank of Police Officer. Learn principles, procedures, terminology, and operation of equipment used in law enforcement, crime prevention, and investigation;Read and understand course material offered while attending the POST Basic Academy;Retain course materials;Perform physical activities required at the Basic Academy;Observe accurately and recall names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places;Remain calm and controlling own emotions in tense situations;Learn and interpret laws, regulations, policies and procedures;Carry out oral and written directions;Make rapid, sound independent judgments within legal and procedural guidelines;Prepare clear and concise reports, records, and other written materials;Operate a variety of specialized police department equipment including computerized telecommunications and dispatch equipment;Establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the Academy at all levels.Perform other duties as assigned.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. 1. Application, a completed application includes one of the following: A Written Exam Score: Applicants must furnish a T-Score of 42.5 points or higher from the California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). Assessment results are valid with one year (12 months) from the date the test was administered and must be provided on official letterhead from an approved training institution. Oral Board & Chief’s Interview After all applications have been reviewed, the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an oral board interview consisting of two to three members of the Albany Police Department. Candidates that pass the oral board interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. A select number of candidates from the Eligibility List will then be invited to participate in the Chief’s interview.3. Provide a Physical Agility Test ScoreOnce you pass the Oral Board & Chief's Interview, we will ask you to complete a Physical Agility Test (if not already attached to your application). Applicants may submit a minimum score of 384 on the POST Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) offered at another institution if they have it already.
