The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Building Permit Technician II with the Development Services Department. This is a FLSA non-exempt, full-time position with benefits. This position is open until filled. First review of applications will be on Monday, March 11, 2024.
Under general supervision assists customers by accepting, processing, coordinating, and routing all construction documents and permits, planning and zoning applications, and plans for residential, commercial, industrial, utility, and capital improvement related projects. Assists clients at the development services center counter by answering development related questions, performing less complex technical reviews and permitting, and other duties as assigned. Supports the Building Permit Technician III and Building Services Division management to support the front counter permitting team.
High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in development permitting, building and planning/zoning plan review, permit issuance, customer service, and computer experience.
Municipal government knowledge is preferred.
International Code Council (ICC) Building Permit Technician Certification is required at the time of hire or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
One additional International Code Council (ICC) Certification related to the development review process is required within two (2) years of hire.
Work requires the ability to read construction plans, general documents, ordinances, reports, codes, and correspondence.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Work requires the ability to write general correspondence and clearly communicate code violations, plan deficiencies and construction requirements or methods necessary to obtain compliance with the adopted codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Must exercise frequent judgment and analysis of situations or circumstances to decide a course of action necessary to solve a problem or satisfy customers. Possess the ability to prioritize activities to ensure optimum workload completion.
Work receives supervision from higher level development services staff and/or from other supervisory or management staff.
Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures.
The incumbents in this position contact others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City which may be involved in decision-making or providing approval or decision-making authority for purchases or projects. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Communicate with developers, architects, engineers, builders, contractors, City staff, and the general public. Employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
