Job Summary:
Properly installs and maintains meters and repairs the water distribution system, meter reading, installs and maintains sewer collection and lift station systems in the city. Performs other related work as required.

Learns proper utility construction inspections and assists in field training newly hired employees.

Essential Functions:
Makes emergency repairs on water lines and sewer mains; locates leaks, excavates sites, repairs pipe, notifies the public and cuts and repairs main lines. Installs new water and sewer mains by excavating, shoring and tying into existing mains after testing. Repairs pipe as appropriate during non-emergency situations. Maintains manholes by cleaning and sealing them. Makes sewer taps. Maintains fire hydrants by replacing seats, stems, caps and bolts. Makes water taps and installs meters for individual customers and contractors. Mow and edge the grass around the facilities as needed. Performs preventative maintenance and upkeep of tools and equipment. Maintains equipment and vehicles in good working condition. Maintains records of work performed such as jobs completed and labor, materials and equipment. Provides updated inventory control records. Performs assigned tasks with little supervision.

Must have ability to sit, stoop, bend, lift, and climb. Must be able to work in seasonal conditions/extreme temperatures.

Knowledge, Ability and Skills:
Ability to read work orders and maps. Skill in math in determining amount of materials needed. Skill in the use of a variety of machines and heavy equipment used in construction, such as backhoe, dump trucks, pumps and jackhammers. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - High School diploma or equivalent, valid Texas driver’s license. High School diploma or equivalent, valid Texas driver’s license. Prefer two (2) years of experience in water and wastewater maintenance and repair. Texas Class “D” water or Collections I license and a Texas class “C” water or Collections II license and B CDL with tanker endorsement preferred. Must receive Texas CSI license within one year. Minimum 2 years of experience in the water distribution and/or wastewater collections system preferred.

Qualifications for Utility Maintenance I: High School diploma or equivalent, valid Texas driver’s license. Must receive a Texas Class “D” water license and Collections I before the end of the second year of employment. Must receive a Texas class B CDL with tanker endorsement within one year.

Qualifications for Utility Maintenance II: Collections II lTCEQ license and D Water TCEQ license or C Distribution TCEQ license and Collections I TCEQ license.

Qualifications for Utility Maintenance III: Collections II TCEQ license and C Distribution license
