The base salary is $59,997.60 and credit may be given for experience above the minimum with City Manager approval.
In addition to the salary, the City provides health insurance, life insurance, short term disability, and pension. The pension requires 4% contribution from the employee and the City contributes more than double that. Vesting is after six (6) years of employment.
The City recognizes and closes for 11 holidays. There is a six-month probationary period, after which employees earn 2 personal days, 10 vacation days, and 12 sick days annually.
Job Summary:
Performs difficult professional work involving governmental accounting and the preparation and maintenance of fiscal and related records. Work is performed under general supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts;
- Prepares and maintains custom financial reports within the general ledger system;
- Uploads and posts financial information to the general ledger from various subsidiary ledgers;
- Prepares and posts journal entries to the general ledger as needed to maintain the accuracy of the financial information;
- Reconciles the general ledger to subsidiary ledgers to verify accuracy of account balances;
- Monitors general ledger accounts related to special project accounting, including project initiation, progress reporting and project closure;
- Reviews and records routine budget adjustment requests;
- Aids in the preparation, balancing and monitoring of the City’s annual budget;
- Research questions from departments and vendors;
- Prepares reports issued to federal and state regulatory agencies as required;
- Compiles or assists in the compilation of regular monthly financial statements, annual financial reports, and analyses;
- Assists in the compilation and update of the City’s accounting procedures and manuals;
- Prepares schedules and reports used to remit taxes to other governments;
- Assists external auditors during annual audits, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules;
- Assists in the development of automated systems used to accumulate, track and report financial transactions;
- Maintains computerized fixed asset accounting system, including entry of new purchases, dispositions, and reconciliations to general ledger;
- Performs research projects as requested by Finance Department management;
- Assists personnel in other City departments in solving problems of a technical accounting nature;
- Performs Accounts Payable functions as required;
- Performs related tasks as required.

None.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting.
A minimum of two years, preferably four years, of experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping
An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, listed below, to complete the essential duties and responsibilities for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of accounting terminology, methods, procedures and equipment;
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures concerning governmental fiscal operations;
- Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment;
- General knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
- Ability to establish and follow work procedures;
- Ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy;
- Skill in the use a variety of office machines and personal computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, associates and the general public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees and the general public.
- Ability to work independently.
