Who we Are Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills is seeking a qualified Police Services Assistant, to perform a variety of specialized clerical support duties in support of the Police Department; to provide customer service duties; and to provide clerical support to an assigned supervisor. The ideal candidate should have have superior customer services skills for assisting patrons, stakeholders, and police department personnel. The ideal candidate should possess strong self-management skills to assist with changing workloads in vehicle, property, custody requests and information releases; receiving, sorting, processing and distributing mail; and with other duties assigned.
Position & Benefits
This position is represented by the City's Safety Support (SS) Association and is covered by the negotiated terms and conditions of that Association's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The City provides a generous compensation and benefits package, including CalPERS 2.5% @ 55 for classic members; $2,150/month towards health insurance (with option of up to $475/month as taxable cash); a monthly contribution of $250 to an RHS account for retiree medical savings; generous vacation accruals with the option for annual cash-outs. The final step of the selection process requires a thorough police background investigation. The background investigation will include a comprehensive investigation of the candidate's background which includes, Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check, education and employment history (including a credit, criminal and DMV review), personal statement, employment and personal reference check.

Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform a wide variety of clerical support duties for the Police Department including to provide customer assistance and perform receptionist duties; answer and screen telephone calls and use judgment as to situations requiring priority attention; take messages; collect information; follow up; schedule appointments and provide referrals.
- Compile, assemble, organize, review, copy, enter electronically and maintain and/or process information and data for statistical, financial, case files, records, forms, correspondence and a variety of reports, as needed.
- Order office supplies; maintain files and records; and process requests, including those for purchasing/procurement; requisitions; contracts; vendor payments; and expense claims, as assigned.
- Assist with vehicle, property, custody requests and information releases, as assigned; receive, sort, process and distribute mail.
- Assist detectives and other staff with preparation and follow up activities to include running reports; obtain or transfer information; and issue or process orders, as assigned.
- Create and distribute crime bulletins; accept subpoenas when cadet is unavailable.
- Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, office methods and procedures, and computer software and systems.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience:
Two years of responsible administrative and clerical experience, preferably in a public safety office setting or equivalent.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Knowledge of:
- Standard office practices, methods and procedures; use of computer equipment and relevant software.
- Methods and procedures for procurement and expense payment processing.
- Principles and practices of data research and recordkeeping.
- Methods and procedures for English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation and business letter and report writing.
- Principles and practices of excellent communication and customer service.
- Pertinent City functions, policies, rules and regulations related to assigned functions.
- Perform a wide variety of clerical support duties as required in the assigned position.
- Intermittently, review and evaluate documents related to department operations; observe, identify and problem solve office operations and procedures; understand, interpret and explain department policies and procedures; explain operations and problem solve issues for the public and with staff.
