KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures related to the release of information of police records
- Knowledge of law enforcement administrative policies and procedures, local police agencies, legal terminology, local government, and operations of City divisions
- Knowledge of Data Privacy Laws
- Ability to evaluate a situation and to exercise good judgment and discretion commensurate with lawful authority, physical abilities and practical requirements of the situation
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with the public, employees and others in an effective, tactful and courteous manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Life experience exhibiting respect. Demonstrated through compassionate and honest service
- Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Minnesota Peace Officer's Standard and Training Board (POST License)
- Completion of an accredited professional Peace Officer program by January 13, 2025 AND
- Eligibility to be licensed by the Minnesota Peace Officer's Standard and Training Board as a Police Officer by date of hire, OR
- Reciprocity test taken by January 13, 2025 OR
- Reinstatement/Restoration of license completed by January 13, 2025
- Must be able to pass an in-depth background investigation including criminal history, driving record, education, work history and personal conduct
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice from an accredited institution
- College or technical school cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher
- Experience as a full-time or part-time Police Officer, Community Service Officer, or Dispatcher
- Experience as a Police Reserve, Police Explorer, or police volunteer
- Experience as a military Police Officer
- Two or more years of volunteer service (community, school, church, etc.)
- Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English that has a recognized presence in the community. (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Cambodian, etc.)

2024 Pay Range: $38.51 - $55.35 per hour
Step 3: $45.89 (after 2 years of service)
Step 4: $48.38 (after 3 years of service)
Step 5: $50.87 (after 4 years of service)
Step 6: $52.37 (after 5 years of service)
Step 7: $53.86 (after 10 years of service)
Step 8: $55.35 (after 15 years of service)
2025 Pay Range (effective December 23, 2024): $39.86 - $57.29 per hour
Education Incentive: Employees possessing a Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university shall have a wage rate that is 1% higher than the amounts above.
Customizable/accelerated field training program based upon prior experience and competency.
Prior Service Credit: An individual hired as a Police Officer who has at least two (2) years prior service as a sworn peace officer during the five (5) year period immediately preceding his/her hire date as a Bloomington Police Officer, shall start at Step 2 of the Wage Scale, move to Step 3 after 1 year of service, to Step 4 after 2 years of service and to Step 5 after 3 years of service. However, such individuals shall not advance to the Longevity Steps of the Wage Scale (Steps 6,7,8) until completion of the respective 5, 10, and 15 years of service as a sworn peace officer with the Bloomington Police Department.
An individual hired as a Police Officer who has at least five (5) years prior service as a sworn peace officer during the eight (8) year period immediately preceding his/her hire date as a Bloomington Police Officer shall start at Step 3 of the Wage Scale, move to Step 4 after 1 year of service and to Step 5 after 2 years of service. However, such individuals shall not advance to the Longevity Steps of the Wage Scale (Steps 6,7, and 8) until completion of the respective 5, 10 and 15 years of service as a sworn peace officer with the Bloomington Police Department.
