What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Accountant position at City of Chesapeake?
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Finance Department is currently operating on a hybrid work site schedule that permits 2 – 3 days a week remote telework after training is completed.

Plays a key role in the fiscal year end close, the City’s yearly audit, and production of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, including the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).Researches and analyzes financial and accounting records to determine sequence of operations and account resolutions
Coordinates and participates in the processing of accounting related information such as allocations, budget preparation, payroll, accounts receivable, and/or accounts payable
Implements new GASB/GAAP requirements and participates in system upgrades and/or implementations – especially those that interface with the General Ledger.
Prepares, audits, analyzes and maintains various financial reports (prepares & reviews financial statements and journal entries; queries and reports from PeopleSoft (Oracle) Financials)
Verifies, monitors, and reconciles accounts
Collects, enters, updates, and maintains account information
Interacts with staff, different departments, and/or external agencies to ensure accuracy of accounts, responds to inquiries, and provides accounting support
Performs related tasks as necessary such as reviewing work prepared by other accountants, providing supervision for subordinate staff, assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures, and providing information and assistance to internal and external auditors
Serves as City Finance liaison to assigned departments including Planning, Community Development, E-911and Sheriff .
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field. Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or a related field desired.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position required a minimum of three years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Certified Public Accountant certification desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or other large scale Financial system
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or a related field
Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM) designation
