JOB SUMMARY
This position performs all tasks normally associated with those of a maintenance/construction foreman including but not exclusive of the following: job management, job planning, job site evaluation, mobilization and supervision, safety considerations, communications and public relations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Displays a high level of initiative, effort and attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Leads, coaches, and evaluates personnel, coordinates equipment and assumes the authority and responsibility of completing tasks in a proper and timely manner.
- Oversees jobs from start-up to clean-up, capable of evaluating jobs to be performed and assign necessary personnel, material and equipment.
- Operates various equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner as necessary towards the completion of work assignments.
- Performs labor task as necessary including the use of chainsaws, rescue saws, perform routine maintenance and repairs to equipment.
- Completes written reports; maintain records and submits reports on the status or work completed and project schedules.
- Attends training as necessary; obtains necessary certificates if required.
- Understands and reads plans and designs specifications.
- Performs routine inspections of all facilities according to standards.
- Provides support for all recreation and park facilities in the delivery of recreation programming and leisure activities.
- On-call rotation with supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college coursework in building trades, forestry, turf management, horticulture or related field preferred. Five (5) years' experience in operation, maintenance and construction of park systems or related field and two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred. Pesticide Applicator License preferred. Irrigation License preferred.
Special Requirements:
Must possess Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. Must possess current First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. Must possess class "A" Commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in ground maintenance, facility maintenance, landscape maintenance and new installation.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in use of various types of maintenance/construction equipment and vehicles.
- Knowledge of records and schedules for work procedures.
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of chemical/fertilization programs, turf management practices, horticulture and integrative pest management.
- Skill in both job/task leadership and personnel leadership.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to communicate using 2-way radios, cell phones, telephones, or other communication devices.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule for on-call and emergency situations.
- Ability to understand and follow the City of Conroe/departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to display positive public relations with the public and employees.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to assist and lead activities in the absence of supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed where extreme temperatures, caustic substances, physical hazards, respiratory hazards, humidity, noise, vibrations, and other hazards may be encountered.
