What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Planning & Zoning Manager position at City of Dearborn?

Under limited supervision of the Planning & Zoning Manager, this position is responsible for the management of planning & zoning division staff technical work. The position is the primary oversight for planning & zoning permit application activities and will coordinate closely with the divisions and departments responsible to ensure successful completion of application reviews.
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; coordinating staff training; and supporting personnel procedures.
- Manages the City’s site plan review process including reviewing developments for compliance with Zoning Ordinance regulations.
- Leads customer service support for the division, and interfaces with the Assistant Building Official and Community Relations Department to support customer service across all types of plan review.
- Administrative support and staff support for the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
- Supports Planning & Zoning Manager in preparation of amendments and recommends changes to the Planning Commission, City Council, and Mayor.
- Supports Planning & Zoning Manager in the development and execution of planning policy documents such as the Master Plan.

Bachelor’s degree in Regional and Urban Planning, Urban Studies, City Planning, Urban Design or directly related field and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
- American Institute of Community Planners Certification
