- Plan and coordinate programs and services for teens
- Promote library services to the community through education and outreach
- Assist customers by providing reader’s advisory services, basic reference and directional assistance in person, over the telephone and by e-mail
- Evaluate and select materials for an assigned area of the collection
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Assist with programs for children and adults as needed
- Prepare publicity materials, displays and bulletin boards to promote the library and services
- Conduct library orientation tours and community outreach for individuals or groups
- Records needed statistical information as directed
- Explain library policy to the public as directed
- Participate in system committees
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or Information Studies from an ALA accredited college or university
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
- Understanding of and support for the principles of intellectual freedom
- Ability to operate effectively as a member of a team in performing daily duties, developing programs and dealing with problem situations
- Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner
- Ability to perform all job duties in a manner that is consistent with the City of Denton’s mission

- Ability to consistently demonstrate tact, courtesy, reliability, and maturity while carrying out assigned duties
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Prior experience with an automated library system
- Prior experience in public speaking or presenting programs
- Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level and stoop below knee level
- Must be legally sighted and able to hear to be able to assist customers
- Must be able to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends
- Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required
