The Water Resources Intern supports the implementation of the City's Water Quality and Wetland Management Plan and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program by providing outdoor labor for regular activities and special projects. The Intern will also assist with various indoor tasks. This position runs from May 16 through August 16, 2022.

Job Summary
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform physical and chemical monitoring of lakes and stormwater runoff
- Data compilation and entry into computer formats, including Excel and basic GIS
- Application of herbicides
- Maintenance of native plant restoration projects
- Public education and involvement activities
- Other duties as assigned
- Competently and safely operate:
- Various monitoring, sampling, and field equipment
- Small boats and outboard motor
- 4-wheel drive, light utility truck
- Personal computer and peripheral equipment
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Current enrollment in a college program with emphasis on/related to water resources, natural resources, and/or environmental sciences
- 2 years of post-secondary education or experience, with coursework or skills in biology, chemistry, geography, or related natural sciences field
- Ability to work in a team and to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
- Ability to think analytically and independently, and to make appropriate judgments
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office computer programs
- Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions, with or without supervision
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position under the described working conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Previous training or experience in water resources sciences or management
- Previous training or experience in data collection and management
- Current junior or senior at a college or university
- Detail-oriented and comfortable with large Excel datasets
Working Conditions, Physical Demands and Hours of Work
- Full-time, seasonal, 40 hours per week
- Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional hours before/after normal working hours and occasional weekends
- 75% field work, 25% office
- May require working outdoors in all weather conditions from May through August
- Conditions may include uneven, rough terrains in wildlife and wetland habitats as well as construction sites
- Must have ability to lift, turn, move, carry, place, and retrieve documents, tools, or objects weighing up to 70 pounds from all levels of a 7-foot high car top, storage shelf, or file cabinet
