About this Position
Under the close supervision of a Lead Journeyman Lineman or Crew Supervisor, the entry-level Electric Apprentice performs unskilled work assisting linemen in construction, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems.
They will also assist team members in coordinating the work of operation and maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient job performance with quality results.
Work will be closely inspected at all times.
Responsibilities
- Start the certification process of the four-year correspondence studies of the City of Edmond Electric Department's Lineman Apprenticeship Training Program
- Assist team members with the activities of operating and maintaining the existing distribution system and the construction of new distribution facilities
- Perform work under close supervision on non-energized circuits for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the power distribution system
- Begin learning to climb poles or ride in the bucket attached to a truck-mounted boom to construct, maintain, and repair distribution power lines
- Learn construction standards, code requirements, and specifications
Learn and understand safety programs and requirements for the department
- Begin and continue learning to read and interpret electrical power circuit plans and specifications
- Begin and continue learning the methods, practices, and equipment of electrical line maintenance, installation, and service for all areas of the electric distribution system
- Begin and continue learning methods, materials, and use of all lineman tools and equipment used in power line construction
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials, and guard against loss or damage
Qualifications
- Education and experience equivalent to four years of high school or a GED equivalent
- 7 to 11 months of related experience and / or training Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possess (or be able to obtain within thirty (30) working days) a valid Class "A" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements
- Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
- Willingness and ability to perform standby duties
- Availability for call-back during off-duty hours
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
