Salary Range: $87,600 to $144,800

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant City Attorney to join our legal team. We are seeking a highly professional to assist the City Attorney in providing legal services to the City. The Assistant City Attorney may supervise administrative staff as assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the City Attorney and is reviewed through conferences, inspection of documents, and evaluation of results obtained.

**Duties:**

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides legal advice to City officials, department heads, and staff on an informal basis and in response to formal requests for legal services.
  • Drafts and reviews contracts, briefs, resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents.
  • Litigates on behalf of the City in court and administrative proceedings in all areas of municipal law, including matters pertaining to code and law enforcement.
  • Locates, reviews, and advises appropriate staff of judicial decisions for applicability to pending cases or actions.
  • May be required to travel for work purposes, including conferences and continuing legal education courses.

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and degree of Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Must be a member of the Florida Bar. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience practicing law is required. Experience in areas relevant to municipal law is preferred. Experience in areas of criminal law and/or police legal advising is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to multitask accurately and efficiently are essential.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

1. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).

2. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).

3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

4. Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.

5. Ability to lift boxes containing paper and/or files.

6. Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
