What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Official (Part-Time) position at City of Fountain?
SUMMARY
The Sports Official is a highly visible professional who devotes a significant amount of time to the youth of the Community.
GENERAL PURPOSE
The primary function of the Sports Official is to ensure that youth games are played fairly and to enforce the rules of the game in a consistent manner. The Sports Official makes sure the games are managed and supervised on a high level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains and supports a positive, collaborative culture within the City organization as a whole, fully embracing the cultural and values statements espoused by the City.
- Responsible for game management; enforces the rules of the game, fair play, good sportsmanship, safety, and good behavior.
- Assists the Recreation Coordinator in setting up fields, putting up or taking down nets, cleaning up fields or gyms; helps to ensure the safety and readiness of fields or gyms.
- Communicates with children; on their level in an effective manner; communicates with parents and spectators in a professional manner; diffuses angry and confrontational situations.
- Be open and answers questions and provide information about calls that you make.
- Be supportive of coworkers and the Recreation Program.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with citizens and co-workers.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends Youth Sports Official meetings; discusses each sports season; discusses new and existing rules and their enforcement.
- Performs other duties and special projects as requested by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in officiating, refereeing, recreation or closely related field preferred.
- Requires some experience officiating youth sports.
Certificate or licenses:
- Requires First Aid and CPR certification.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of the rules of a variety of youth sports including baseball/softball, basketball, flag football, soccer and volleyball.
- Knowledge of effective writing techniques and the ability to produce information in written form.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Handles or uses tools, equipment or work aids involving some latitude for judgment regarding
attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also
involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or
considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving
close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee
may encounter while performing the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations

requires working in various weather conditions. Hot, cold, and wet conditions are often
encountered.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with often times cheering and a raised
