Position Summary
Responsible for operating heavy equipment and other vehicles for the purpose of excavating, processing, compacting substances on a daily basis. Also, responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment. This position will normally operate a bulldozers, compactors, or excavators in addition to water truck, dump truck, roll-off truck at the landfill site.
Essential Job Functions
Minimum Education & Work Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) 2 years related experience with a variety of solid waste and other automotive equipment Class C Texas driver’s license Ability to lift 50 pounds or more several times daily Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills
Education/ Experience:
- Six months additional training past the high school level
- 2-4 years experience with a variety of heavy earth moving or automotive equipment
- Class A TCEQ Municipal Solid Waste license or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehicles
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, operation and servicing of heavy equipment
- Skill to operate controls for required equipment
- Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
- Ability to read and understand operator’s manual
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license Completion of a defensive driving course within six months of hirePhysical Tasks & Working Conditions
The incumbent works primarily in a vehicle; with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. 8-10 hours drive time on a daily basis in all weather conditions.
