Job Posting for Head Lifeguard Indoors Part-time at City of Great Falls

Responsible for safety, work schedules and organization of lifeguard team. Works to ensure the safety of the pool patrons at the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Center. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Supervisor and other supervisory staff.

Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations to maintain a safe swimming environment and facility. Promptly warns users of any existing safety hazards in order to prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
Provides on deck supervision of the natatorium by continuously circulating and monitoring pools, deck, sauna and hallways.
Assists, as needed, with pool programs to include swimming lessons, special events, and aquatic programs.
Completes Head Guard checklist and daily records relating to rescue assists, first aid, weather conditions, sanitation and patrons as required.
Checks the pool water by conducting chemical tests; maintains cleanliness of the water by adding the proper pool chemicals Operates lift chairs providing access to and from the pools for patrons requiring assistance.
Responds quickly to all emergency situations and administers first aid, CPR or AED when needed.
Contacts emergency medical personnel for serious injuries and reports such incidents to the Aquatics Supervisor and Recreation Manager immediately.
Assists in the cleaning and proper maintenance of the equipment and the assigned facility.
Performs occasional pool cleaning and maintenance tasks such as vacuuming the pool and cleaning the drains.
Creates daily schedules and rotations for pool staff.
Directs and oversees the tasks of the junior lifeguards.
Provides positive daily customer interaction.
Participates in rotation schedule as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned and required.

Must be 18 years old.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain American Red Cross, YMCA, Royal Canadian Lifesaving Association or equivalent Lifeguard Certificate.
Must be certified or have the ability to obtain certification in CPR/PR, AED, oxygen administration, disease transmission, and first aid.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water.
Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water.
Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver’s license.
CPO, WSI, and LGI certifications, preferred.

Ability to enforce pool regulations and rules while conducting classes to ensure a quality experience and safety of the patrons.

Ability to resolve problems and answer questions a courteous and professional manner.
Extensive knowledge of and ability to administer or use first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not supervise staff but provides technical guidance and work review for lifeguards and junior lifeguards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, employees may be exposed to varied temperature conditions such as heat and cold and to chemicals used in cleaning and sanitation of the pools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. When more than 50 pounds employees are encouraged to use a team lift. Possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to use pool equipment; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work week is Sunday through Saturday. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
