The Role:
The City of Hillsboro is seeking a Safety Liaison who is passionate and committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our employees, patrons and community members at our City facilities, parks, and properties. The Safety Liaison is a new position for the City, and we are looking for someone to engage with and improve the daily experiences of our employees, patrons, and community members we serve through personal interactions and connections. The Safety Liaison will collaborate with City departments, building relationships with local agencies, and facilitating community engagement through networking, safety education, resource assistance, and problem-solving. To best serve our community this position is required to be Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Forge meaningful connections with employees, patrons, and community members, understanding their unique needs and concerns. Conduct regular check-ins to foster a sense of care and community support.
- Safety Advocacy: Collaborate with City departments and local agencies to champion safety initiatives. Develop and update facility-specific safety and security policies, ensuring that our spaces remain secure and conducive to positive experiences.
- Empowerment Through Training: Provide guidance and training sessions to employees and volunteers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to uphold safety and security standards.
- Risk Mitigation: Evaluate the safety functions of City facilities, identifying potential risks and taking proactive measures to minimize them, ultimately safeguarding the well-being of all.
- Collaborative Approach: Work alongside City departments and local agencies, building bridges and fostering partnerships to enhance overall community safety and engagement.
- Positive Enforcement: While upholding established rules and policies, approach enforcement with a positive mindset, emphasizing collaboration and shared responsibility for safety.
Schedule:
The proposed schedule for this position will be Tuesday through Friday 12 – 9 pm and Saturday 10 am – 7 pm.
This schedule best aligns with the needs of the City facilities in the Shute Park Campus where this position will be assigned. Those facilities include: Shute Park Library, Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC), and the Community Senior Center.
General Statement of Duties
The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for employees, patrons and community members at City facilities, parks, and properties under the direction of the City’s Risk Manager. This includes enforcing City rules and policies, serving as a liaison between the City and its employees, patrons, community members and local agencies, and making referrals to resources as needed. Incumbents will take a lead role in the development and updates of facility-specific safety and security policies and procedures in collaboration with City Departments, stay informed of facility needs by engaging with City employees through regular check ins, and develop and maintain collaborative, trusting relationships with City departments, employees, and local agencies. As assigned, this position will serve as a lead worker and will provide necessary training and oversight to staff.

High School Diploma or GED; and 4 years of experience in a social service, safety/security, customer service, building monitor and/or similar position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing/Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
- Additional specialized certifications may be required, based on area of assignment.
