Position Summary
Performs duties as directed in dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, protection, and safety as they relate to radiation therapy. Provides managerial coverage for Director.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Directs CT simulation, study transfer to treatment planning system, structure contouring, dose
- calculation, determines and verifies machine settings, ensures accurate data transfer to record andverify system.
- Participates in all aspect of the quality assurance program in radiation physics including radiationsafety: reviews of proper dose delivery and cumulative dose; compares computed dose withdelivered dose using diodes or TLD's; performs tests to check operation of therapy machines;recalibrates therapy machines.
- Participates in Brachytherapy treatment planning and loading of radioactive sources.
- Ensures that all assignments (including recurring assignments) are completed as scheduled.
- Initiates and develops procedures for calibration and data collection of newly established programs.
- Assists in consultations with Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Departments (radiationprotection surveys and performance evaluation).
- Takes responsibility for departmental compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Assists in the education of students in the school of Therapeutic Radiology Technology and UCIresidents.
- Maintains clinical dosimetry systems.
- Maintains currency in radiation physics through continuing medical education andfamiliarity with the relevant literature.
- Participates in the experimental design, data collection, and data analysis in radiationphysics research.
- Publishes results of experiments in peer-reviewed journals.
- With the approval of the Department Director, seeks intramural and extramural funding forresearch.
- Where appropriate, alerts the Department Director and Division Chair to the opportunity forPatents.
Qualifications
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
Minimum Education:
- Doctorate (Ph.D.)
Minimum Experience:
- 5 years clinical experience in Radiation Physics
Req. Certification/Licensure:
- ABR or ACMP in therapeutic radiological physics or eligibility plus certification within 2 years of hire
- BLS through the American Heart Association
Preferred Experience:
- Radiation Physics
