About our Department:
The Huntsville Municipal Court has jurisdiction and responsibility for motor vehicle and traffic violations, criminal misdemeanors, municipal ordinance violations, enforcement or regulation violations under the City Ordinances. The jurisdiction of the Huntsville Municipal Court extends to offenses committed within the city limits. The Municipal Court supervises Probation, Electronic Monitoring, Work Furlough, and the Community Service Division.
Probation Officer Position Overview:
This is advanced professional investigative and social service work in assisting the Judges of the Municipal Court. Work involves the organization and operation of an effective professional probation program for misdemeanants. Work also includes investigations and detailed report writing. Work is normally reviewed by a Municipal Court Judge for compliance with the court's orders and with established policy and standards.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field.
Two years’ work experience in alcoholism, drug-abuse, law enforcement, counseling or a related field is preferred.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
State court referral officer certification obtain within 12 months of hire/promotion.
NCIC/ACJIC certification obtain within 12 months of hire/promotion.
