What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANNING TECHNICIAN position at City of Inglewood?
Under the supervision of a Senior Planner or designee, provides planning, zoning, and development information to the public. JOB TASKS:
- Provides planning, zoning, and development information to the public;
- Issues over-the-counter permits, processes entitlement applications;
- Assists in the gathering of data graphic, oral, and written reports
- Locates existing plans for review by applicants and retrieves miscellaneous planning information for review and analysis.
- Responds to planning questions or refer citizens, property owners, contractors, architects, and engineers to appropriate staff to planning questions
- Reviews for completeness, process, and file plans after issuance
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledgeable of quality customer service methods and techniques; and quality business writing techniques;
- Skilled in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, using graphic instructions such as blueprints, layouts, base maps, or other visual aids, following oral and written instructions in English, and in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with both external and internal customers;
- Ability to prepare written documents, reports, and other business correspondence using proper grammar, spelling, and formatting for business presentations, perform essential duties with little supervision, maintain professionalism in adverse conditions, effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English to the public, business owners, residents, City employees, etc.
- Proficient in operating office equipment, including computers and software, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and other specialized equipment, MS Office software packages, and other industry-related software.
Qualifications
Two years of experience working in planning or a related field or a Bachelor’s degree in planning. Must possess at the time of application and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
