The City of La Crosse is accepting applications for a full-time Water Supply Specialist to become an essential member of the Water Department. The purpose of the Water Department is to monitor and maintain the water distribution system to bring safe water to every home and business in La Crosse. It is the responsibility of the Water Utility to install, operate, repair, and maintain all the grounds, buildings and equipment of the city, which includes 13 active wells, 2 reservoirs, over 220 miles of water main, 16,600 service connections, 1,980 fire hydrants and the main pumping system. The individual in this position will work with a dedicated team of employees who work together to provide quality, sufficient water for the City of La Crosse.
The purpose of this position is to perform utility mechanical maintenance and repair work. Incumbents perform scheduled and emergency maintenance and repair to water treatment equipment such as pumps, motors, generators, gas engines, etc. May take plant equipment readings, sample plant output for testing and operate equipment. Starting wage for this non-exempt position is $25.34 per hour (80 hours bi-weekly).
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, two to three years mechanical maintenance experience preferably in a utility, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Wisconsin DNR water operator’s license preferred.
