JOB ADVERTISEMENT:

The City of Lansing is seeking a full-time Engineer Technician 30 to join their professional team. This is a great opportunity for those seeking to utilize their technical engineering background and education to ensure the City’s standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to. The successful candidate will be able to use their wealth of knowledge in traffic control principles, pedestrian safety issues, right of way management principles and practices, Americans with Disabilities (ADA), and Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices to assist in performing the essential duties of the position. The City offers a competitive wage and benefit package including paid vacation, sick and holiday leave.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must obtain a Michigan Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Storm Water Operator
Certification within ninety (90) days of placement in the position or next available testing sequence as approved.
Must obtain a Michigan Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Comprehensive Soil Erosion and
Sedimentation Control Planning & Design Certification within one (1) year of placement in the position.
Must obtain the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Level 1 Certificate within one (1) year of placement in the position.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
One (1) year of experience in sidewalk, roadway or underground utility construction and inspection, preferred.
A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Monitors contractor and homeowner compliance with permitted activities and ordinance requirements within the public rights-of-way (sidewalk, street, sewer, and utility construction as well as ordinance requirements for homeowners).
Interacts with the public, other City departments, and governmental agencies; gathers and provides information related to permits and right-of-way issues.
Monitors contractor and homeowner compliance with soil erosion/sedimentation activities throughout the city and investigates citizen complaints.
Prepares sewer permits, right-of-way permits, soil erosion/sedimentation control permits, indemnity bonds, wye/tap permits and their receipts.
Collects field data regarding right-of-way property and personal injury claims.

Provides in-person and telephone assistance to the public and other governmental departments on sewer and drainage problems and other public improvements such as curbs, gutters and streets.
Issues building address numbers and legal description, layouts for new individual buildings and layout designations of number patterns on new subdivisions and all special numbering systems for apartments and townhouses.
Reads and interprets sewer maps and instructs contractors and members of the public in regard to procedures and materials.
