Dispatcher-Work Coordinator

This position is not designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is not subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
JOB OBJECTIVE: To receive and relay messages and information regarding street repair maintenance and construction; to maintain records of corporation cuts; and to assign crews to emergency street problems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receives calls regarding street, sign, and signal maintenance emergencies and employee absences, relays messages to the appropriate supervisor in the field by direct contact, telephone, intercom, and two-way radio.
- Relays instructions and information from the Street Maintenance Superintendent or Assistant Street Superintendent to the appropriate Supervisor I or work crews in the field by two-way radio.
- Assigns work crews to hazardous situations in absence of the Street Maintenance Superintendent or other supervisors.
- Answers questions and interprets City policy concerning City responsibility, City boundaries, and Street Department work.
- Determines if malfunctioning vehicles should be sent to vehicle garage for repair.
- Computes work orders for equipment and vehicles requiring repairs.
- Maintains a library of equipment manuals; records user and date manuals are removed from library.
- Types forms, letters, disciplinary action notices, corporation cut book entries and other information, utilizing a typewriter and a computer terminal with database software.
- Obtains information from Street Department employees needed in the completion of Workers' Compensation forms and accident reports.
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school; and one (1) year of experience in record keeping in a construction or related area. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
