What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL Lifeguard position at City of Menasha?

JOB
Swimming is a much anticipated summer time experience! Be a part of providing that opportunity in a safe and fun environment to our community! The pool is open from 6:00am to 7:45pm daily with a mix of lap, open swim, and lessons. Hours per week vary by position. Certification classes are provided. Lifeguards provide a safe and comfortable environment for pool guests and enact lifesaving measures should an emergency occur. This requires enforcing all pool rules. Always be prepared and use best practices for pool surveillance including scanning and tactics to maintain alertness.Minimum age is 15.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Be a proactive (take all steps to prevent accidents) guard rather than reactive. Be assertive, aware, and consistent. Use a progressive approach if guests do not heed the corrections. Make requests and issue orders in a courteous and assertive manner.Be professional and prepared. This includes being dressed in uniform (suit, fanny pack, whistle, and tube.) Utilize sun protection including sunglasses, hats, umbrellas, sunscreen, and sun protection clothing.Be knowledgeable of the pool zones. Use the scanning strategy when responsible for a zone. Adjust if necessary to maintain full visibility. Communicate with fellow lifeguards as needed.Be alert and ready to respond at all times. When in the chair or on deck position yourself attentively and professionally (no slouching, leaning, or crossed legs). This includes refraining from unnecessary talk or distraction while guarding. Scan the pool at all times when on deck including when walking. Use the appropriate rotation technique.Participate in pre-season and regularly scheduled emergency procedure drills, trainings, and maintain physical fitness level to allow for the ability for lifeguarding and be able to successfully complete a save.Facilitate deep water test as needed.Be on the lookout for hazardous situations and take necessary actions to prevent accidents. Keep all safety equipment in good repair, and keep the pool area free of debris.Perform rescues when needed. Assist in completing accident reports for all rescues. Be sure to bring the victim to the office following the rescue for further observation.Be responsible for routine maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned, including clean-up tasks at the end of the night.Act respectfully while on duty and project a positive image of the pool staff and the Park & Recreation Department. Communicate in a positive, respectful, helpful manner to all guests and fellow team members.Provide support as directed during special events.
