POSITION TITLE: POLICE DEPARTMENT CASEWORKER

SALARY RANGE: $54,142 - $80,059 annually

HOURS OF WORK: 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Social Services or a related field with three years of related case work experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Position requires valid Connecticut Driver’s license within 60 days of appointment. (Copies of all required certifications and licenses must be uploaded to application.)

POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to provide specialized community care and advocacy to the City of Middletown. This position will be a social service resource serving as a liaison for the community, emergency medical services, police, and other social service agencies in cases of domestic violence, child and elder abuse, homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse/addiction, juvenile behavioral health issues, or family mental health issues. The work is performed under the direction of the Chief of Police or his/her designee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Examples of) Facilitates and coordinates the provision of services for clients; advocates for clients. Acts as a liaison to other social service agencies and programs. Assists clients in obtaining employment services, housing assistance, and emergency services. Responds to private residences and other locations within the City of Middletown for non-emergency calls as requested. Provides support, guidance, and counsel to families in need. Requests police response to scenes as necessary. Assists individuals in obtaining protective/restraining orders and Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence supports. Reports abuse. Refers case management and crisis intervention services to clients as well as limited counseling to clients and their families. Refers cases to DCF when needed. Interviews juveniles referred by schools, police, Courts, or private organizations to determine services needed. Performs assessments and evaluations to determine program eligibility.
