What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planning Manager position at City of Missouri City?
This is a full-time (Executive/Senior Level Officials and Managers) position in the City's Development Services Department. An individual in this position assists with the overall administration, planning and daily operation of the Development Services Department. Reporting Relationship: Development Services Director.
- Supervise staff in the Planning and Development Division; establish performance measures; review progress towards organizational goals; conduct performance evaluations; make recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, transfers and terminations; track, review and approve personnel recommendations; provide coaching and/or mentoring to personnel as needed;
- Coordinate, assign, approve and/or process the review of applications for changes to new or existing commercial or residential structures in the City;
- Supervise zoning compliance inspections for new or existing commercial or residential locations for completions or occupancy;
- Oversee the progress of communication between planners, staff, and external customers; review and finalize drafts of public notices and memos; finalize meeting agendas and review meeting packets for accuracy and content; attend Planning and Zoning Commission meetings;
- Coordinate changes to draft ordinances with other departments; and attend City Council meetings as necessary;
- Recommend, develop, draft and track amendments through the department’s approval processes;
- Coordinate annexation and de-annexation proposals; and manage the overall administration of ordinances according to establish procedures and the law;
- Represent the Department Director at meetings as needed; approve building permits and maintains databases;
- Supervise the development of reports as requested by internal or external clients;
- Assist with the overall development, administration and evaluation of the Department’s budget;
- Prepare City demographic data; provide data and support to other individuals in the Department as necessary;
- Perform other related duties as assigned;
- Subject to 24 hour recall.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration or closely related field, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of ten (10) years related professional experience having increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Master’s degree in planning, public administration or closely related field, from an accredited college or university; American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification, and five (5) years professional experience as a senior planner or closely related level of responsibility is preferred.
The Department of Human Resources Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Salary : $76,001 - $121,601
