MAJOR FUNCTION:
This library professional is responsible for developing, planning, and presenting cultural and informational library programming for adults; assisting the Youth Education Librarian with programming for teens and on occasion, children; and overseeing the library’s volunteer program by coordinating recruitment, selection, training and supervision of volunteers for literacy tutors, technology instruction and computer training, and other library initiatives.
In addition to creating lifelong learning opportunities by fostering relationships and co-creating programs with partnering organizations and institutions, this staff person provides friendly service to all while performing circulation tasks at the membership desk and assisting members in the use of the Library, its materials, services, and e-resources. Applicants must be energetic, creative, self-motivated and have excellent organizational skills. The successful applicant must be able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively while carrying out the Library’s Mission and Vision Statements, Strategic Plan Objectives, and Customer Service Goals. Event planning and customer service experience is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED. One year library or equivalent in quality customer service experience. Event planning experience is preferred. Must meet FEMA requirement for NIMS certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work nights and weekends. Meet FEMA requirement for NIMS certification. Possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Every New Port Richey employee is required to fill out a Disaster Response Survey and is subject to being required to report to work during a declared disaster.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical Ability:
Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and routine keyboard operations. The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards. The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth and texture perception. Ability to stand and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed four hours consecutively. Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift to access Library areas and materials. Ability to move a fully loaded book truck and lift, push, and pull equipment, furnishings, and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds as necessary to set up programs.
Sensory Requirements:
Ability to hear, speak and understand conversations in English in various tones of voice. Adept at listening to and understanding others from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Ability to see, read, and comprehend letters, numbers, words, characters or symbols, which are both large and small. Ability to print draw letters, numbers, words, characters and symbols which are legible and understood by others. Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Administrative and other work is performed under typical office conditions and in every room of the Library where operations are conducted. The noise level in the work environment is usually (moderate but may be noisy in open locations and programming areas.) By the very nature of public libraries, it is very busy, with shifting demands from the varied public. Ability to deal with stress related to routine deadlines and occupational problems, which demand immediate attention. Necessity to multi-task successfully. Ability to accept decisions made by others that may be in opposition of own views.
